CHRISTMAS SERVICES

At St Mary's we invite you to join with us in celebrating this joyful season whether in person or online!  In this year of pandemic things will be a little different due to social distancing restrictions.  This means we can only have 60 people in the church instead of the normal 350.  Tickets will therefore be needed for the services shown below. There will also be an opportunity to attend via livestream.

We take a special collection at our services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in aid of charity.  This year we are collecting for the Whitechapel Mission and you can read more below and donate on our fund-raising page here   Please give generously to help someone less fortunate than you.

The Whitechapel Mission:

Provides hot meals, clothing, blankets and sleeping bags to hundreds of homeless people. Winter is always the most difficult time for the homeless, especially this year when most other providers have had to close (including Crisis at Christmas). The Whitechapel doors will be open every day this winter as the numbers requiring practical help, not to mention a kind word or some advice, will be increased due to the current pandemic including its economic effects.

Director, Tony Miller says "we served 223,354 meals in the last twelve months. But it’s about more than meals. By encouraging each person to address the issues which caused their homelessness, we help them to gain the skills and confidence to make lasting changes in their lives - We believe everyone deserves a chance, regardless of their background, race or religion - We are open every day of the year and expect to see over 400 homeless and vulnerable men and women every day. And we do this without public funding.”

£5.00 will feed, shower and clothe a homeless person for a day.

£11.40 will buy a replacement birth certificate and allow a homeless person to get their identity back, and place their first foot on the ladder.

£20.00 will give a new sleeping bag and roll mat to one person.

£60.00 will fund a pair of socks and bar of chocolate for 60 people on Christmas Day.

£100.00 will fund all costs for an advice worker for a day.
